Does Cambridge need all this new purpose built student accommodation?
The benefit of Cambridge’s fresh flood of purpose-built student accommodation has been called into question as battle lines are drawn over a major new development.
Campaigners opposed to the proposed 318-flat student development on Cheddars Lane put their case to councillors alongside local developers Wrenbridge yesterday morning.
Wrenbridge has commissioned research by Bidwells to try and work out the need for student accommodation in the city.
They found 27,000 full-time students studying at either the University of Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin are battling for around 17,000 specialist beds, with an extra 3,000 beds having planning permission.
